Can We Preserve Liberty in an Age of Terrorism?
Two Perspectives

Security is essential for the enjoyment of freedom in a liberal society, but this does not mean that we should accept security at any price. In late 2003, The Centre for Independent Studies held the inaugural Ross Parish essay competition and invited entrants to consider whether, in an age of terrorism, the benefits of greater security outweigh the costs in reduced freedom. Nicholas Southwood was awarded the first prize, and John Humphreys won second prize with their essays.
