A Truly Independent Centre

Since 1976, The Centre for Independent Studies has been Australia and New Zealand’s leading independent public policy research and educational institute. Our continuing strength lies in our unique blend of absolute independence, capacity to lead public debate and influence policy through quality research and scholarship, and commitment to an intellectual framework that promotes the principles of a free, open, and democratic society.

'Independent’ in our name means:
  • we are politically non-partisan
  • we don’t accept government funding
  • we are politically non-partisan

The Centre for Independent Studies is funded solely by membership subscriptions, book sales, and donations from individuals, charitable foundations, and the corporate sector. The Centre accepts no government funding, so your support is vital to ensure the CIS can continue its work as Australia and New Zealand’s foremost public policy institute.
