Nobody needs to be reminded of the impact of the global financial crisis. The concern for those of us who believe in liberty and the free market is that once the crisis ends, the economic landscape may be radically changed, and not for the better. Public debt and market distortions generated by government stimulus packages, payments and various guarantees, threaten to fundamentally alter the balance of power between individuals and their governments. The list of people and organisations that see government as the source of their well-being and financial security will continue to grow. This is not the road to freedom and prosperity.
Has the global financial crisis had an impact on CIS? Yes it has, along with all other non-profit organisations. What has been our response? We have lifted out stroke rate and our output considerably. In a move which has proved extraordinarily timely, we have bolstered out economics team. But while the economy clearly has to be our main focus, there has always been more to CIS than economics. If you would like to see some of the programs we are involved in click here.
The very essence of a free society and a free economy requires limiting the power and activities of government and strengthening the autonomy of individuals and families. At the core of the CIS’s work remains the task of ensuring the relationship between society and the state is properly balanced. We need your help to continue to make the case for freedom.
