After the Riot: The Meaning for Multicultural Australia 27 SEPTEMBER 2012

The riot in Sydney by Islamic protestors has raised questions about the health of Australian multiculturalism. Are the values that have made Australia a successful ‘immigrant nation’ now under threat? Are internal divisions straining the social fabric of our multi-ethnic society? We are now revaluating our national self-perception and wondering if Australia is really the peaceful and harmonious nation we imagine it to be.

At this event, CIS Researchers Benjamin Herscovitch, Revd Peter Kurti and Dr. Jeremy Sammut will consider what the riot means for tolerance, pluralism and liberal democracy.
