Cautiously Optimistic: Bourgeois Dignity & Global Prosperity

The Centre for Independent Studies’ 2013 John Bonython Lecture(JBL) was given by Professor Deirdre McCloskey, an award-winning author and Distinguished Professor of Economics at the University of Illinois, Chicago.

Professor McCloskey discussed how a new liberty and dignity for ordinary people in the 18th and 19th centuries was responsible for the rise and wealth of the West and the emerging economies of today.

Professor McCloskey is introduced by Paul Oslington, Professor of Economics and Dean of Business, Alphacrucis College, and vice-president of the Economic Society of Australia.
