Is technology our educational saviour?

Technology now plays a crucial role in the daily work of schools and in supporting student assessment. However, constructive adoption of technology has been constrained by regulatory burdens and resistance to change. A free and open marketplace for education technology has potential to deliver innovative solutions to boost effectiveness, efficiency, and equity in Australian schooling. Rather than children being limited by the education available to them locally, educational innovation has expanded access so all students can benefit from the highest quality teachers, teaching, and assessment tools. Whilst others have cautioned that the jury remains out on the track record of education technology in delivering better student outcomes or improving teachers’ work.

Three of the worlds leading education experts discuss the growing role technology is playing in our schooling system. Moderated by CIS education research fellow Glenn Fahey.

Jamie Beaton is CEO and Co-Founder of Crimson Education and President of Crimson Global Academy, a fully registered online international high school.

Wayne Houlden is Vice Chairman and Founder of Janison Education Group, a leading provider of digital assessment.

John Hattie is Laurette Professor at Melbourne Graduate School of Education and chair of the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership. He is co-author of the recent paper Not all that glitters is gold: Can education technology finally deliver?
