Reforming Lessons in Education across Australia and New Zealand

Across the English-speaking world, determined political leadership is driving a new wave of school reform.

Join us for a conversation between the current New Zealand and Australian education ministers, as well as the former Minister of State for Schools in the UK, as they explore what we can learn from the successes and setbacks of our closest partners.

In Australia, Hon Jason Clare MP is leading a national agenda to lift standards and ensure every child is set up for success. Across the Tasman, in New Zealand, Hon Erica Stanford MP is spearheading a major reset of schooling with a renewed focus on knowledge, evidence, and teacher training reform.

In England, Rt Hon Sir Nick Gibb has shown through more than a decade of reform that consistent leadership and a clear vision can deliver transformative results. He reflects on much of this in his recent book Reforming Lessons: Why English Schools Have Improved Since 2010 and How This Was Achieved.

Together, these consequential education agendas bring insights into what it takes to deliver lasting improvement — and the lessons that can be applied across borders.

Hon Erica Stanford MP is New Zealand’s Minister for Education and Minister for Immigration.

Rt Hon Sir Nick Gibb is the former UK Schools Minister, holding the portfolio for close to 10 years.

Hon Jason Clare MP is Australia’s Minister for Education, with over 15 years’ parliamentary experience and previous service in senior ministerial role.
