Lauchlan Chipman

Professor Lauchlan Chipman graduated with a Bachelor of Philosophy (Distinction) and a Doctor of Philosophy from Oxford (where he was reportedly the inspiration for his flatnmate Michael Palin’s later ‘Bruces’ skit with Monty Python.  Prof Chipman was Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at Melbourne University, Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Bond University, Vice Chancellor and President of Central Queensland University, Foundation Professor of Philosophy and later Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Wollongong, Deputy Vice Chancellor at Monash University, and Vice Chancellor and President of Central Queensland University. He was also Liberal Arts Fellow in Law and Philosophy at Harvard University Law School and a Fellow of the Australian College of Education.  Professor Chipman was also pivotal in the early days of The Centre for Independent Studies, delivering a paper at its inaugural seminar in 1976 and going on to serve as an academic advisor.
