The Liberty & Society Workshop is a full-day, in-person workshop run by the Centre for Independent Studies (CIS), designed to equip young Australians with practical skills in financial independence and entrepreneurship. Through sessions on financial management, investing fundamentals, and entrepreneurial strategy, participants build the economic agency to take control of their futures.
No prior knowledge is required — only the drive to become more independent.
Program Structure
The workshop runs as a single full day in a structured, in-person format.

- Location: Centre for Independent Studies, Level 1, 131 Macquarie St, Sydney NSW 2000
- Format: In-person (full day)
Each day includes:
- Sessions delivered by academics and entrepreneurs
- Small group discussions and Q&A
- Networking with fellow participants
- Catered morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea
Preparatory Course
All participants are required to complete a mandatory online preparatory course (2 hours) prior to attending the workshop. Details on how to access the course will be provided upon acceptance into the program.

Who Can Apply?
The workshop is open to young adults aged 18–27 from Australia. Applicants from any background or field of study are welcome. No prior knowledge of finance, economics, or entrepreneurship is required.
Travel Bursaries
Participation is fully funded, including all catered meals. Travel bursaries are available for participants from regional or rural New South Wales, Newcastle, or Canberra. Applicants from these areas are encouraged to apply for a bursary as part of their application.

As part of the Liberty & Society ecosystem, workshop participants gain exposure to CIS networks and may receive priority consideration for other CIS programs, including:

Applicants are required to complete a short online application form. No prior background in finance or economics is required — we are looking for motivated young Australians who want to take control of their financial future.
Cost
The workshop is fully funded by CIS donors. All meals are catered and travel bursaries are available for eligible participants.
