The Profit Motive

This paper is published as a contribution to the debate on economic and social issues and is a reminder that many of today’s problems have their sources in the writings of the past.

It is worth remembering once again the words of Keynes: ‘Practical men, who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influences, are usually the slaves of some defunct economist . . . Soon or late it is ideas, not vested interests which are dangerous for good or evil.’
